The 2019 World Championship

In 2019, Scottie Pearman started the journey to accomplish his dream of becoming a professional athlete.  He entered the ALD Championship Series by winning his first event at Carolina National Golf Club in Bolivia, NC.  The winning continued all the way to the 2019 ALD World Championship at Barefoot Golf & Resort where Pearman took down ALD Canada’s best, Wil Cashin to become World Champion. That event was hampered by rain, forcing the ALD crew to move the finals indoors.

The 2020 ALD Season

As is the norm in most sports, winning the 2019 World Championship indoors on a simulator caused some to (perhaps unfairly) scrutinize the win. The 2020 season seemed doomed by the COVID 19 pandemic. World Long Drive suspended operations and lockdowns were put in place in the USA and around the world. Pearman had planned to make his professional debut in 2020, but changed his plans to attempt an ALD Worlds repeat when Ultimate Long Drive managed to begin holding ALD events in June. He won all but one ALD League event in 2020 on his way to the 2020 ALD Worlds. Scottie took down the toughest competition in ALD history and become the first two-time ALD World Champion.

Turning Pro

Proving that he is one of the most determined in the sport, Pearman wasn’t giving up on his goal to urn pro in 2020.  Some critics in the sport still questioned Scottie’s ability to compete with the best. Shortly after winning the 2020 ALD Worlds, he made his professional debut in the PLDA at One Stop Power Shop near Dunn, NC where he struggled at first to finish in the money. but, he earned a spot in the PLDA National Championship in Memphis, TN and finished third proving he had what it takes to compete against the best. A few weeks later, he entered the Xtreme Long Drive® Series Championship at Bryan Park Golf Club in Greensboro, NC against some of the top professional hitters in the world and took the win.

The Message

This story will be published in more detail in a future issue of International Long Drive Magazine. There are multiple messages here. The obvious message is that Scottie Pearman is a force in Professional Long Drive.  Scottie is also an example of how aspiring long drivers can begin their careers in ALD and through dedication and hard work make their way to competition with the best. Thanks, Scottie for showing us how it’s done!
